The swearing in ceremony of the NYSC 2018 BATCH ‘B’ Corps members took place at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, as members of the Batch took the oath of allegiance to serve their fatherland.
The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who presided over the ceremony, in his address delivered by his representative, the Commissioner for Youth development and Sports cum Chairman NYSC Governing Board, Hon. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, congratulated the prospective corps members on their success at their various institutions which qualified them to participate in the orientation programme. He therefore admonished them to take the skill acquisition program seriously as the rate of unemployment in the country is very high. He equally urged them to key into the empowerment programs that have been put in place by the State government.
Mr. Governor also assured the corps members of their safety in Ondo State, for the people are peaceful, loving, hospitable and accommodating. He however warned them to be security conscious at all times, while also encouraging them to use the opportunity to make new friends and gain better understanding of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Chairman NYSC Governing Board, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Modupe Eshofonie, in his address, charged the corps members to be disciplined and to let selfless service and humility be their guiding principles throughout the duration of the Orientation course and beyond. He also advised that they remain in high spirit and participate in all camp activities.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Ondo State, Mrs. Grace Akpabio stated that a total of two thousand two hundred (2200) corps members were registered, including One hundred and Seventy Seven (177) Lagos corps members who were dislodged to Ondo State for their Orientation course only. She expressed her satisfaction at the conduct of the corps members and enjoined them to continue to conduct themselves in a disciplined manner. She equally charged them to adhere to the camp rules and regulations and above all, participate fully in all the activities in order to have a fulfilling service year.
Mrs. Akpabio expressed her gratitude to Mr. Governor for his prompt response to the damaged hostel roof in the camp and the presentation of cash awards of ₦100,000, ₦80,000 and ₦50,000 to corps members who distinguished themselves in the course of their service for first, second and third positions respectively. She enjoined the corps employers and Local governments to always provide accommodation and other welfare facilities where necessary for corps members.
Highlight of the occasion was the administration of oath of allegiance on corps members by the Chief Judge of Ondo State who was ably represented by Hon. Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi of the High court of Justice, Akure.
